Joe Louis Walker, introduced to the Pantheon of Blues music celebrities, Blues Hall of Fame and the four-time winner of the Blues Music Award, celebrates a career that goes back half a century. The new album, 'Everybody Wants A Piece', captures its blues heritage. His unique voice delights in the color of Robert Cray - he is amazing!
Looking back on his rich history, Walker says: "I would like to be known for being credible and faithful to my music and blues." Sometimes I feel that I have learned more from my failures than from my success, but it has made me stronger and more daring. it helped me to create my own style, I would like to think that when someone turns on one of my CDs, they will know from the first notes of 'To Joe Louis Walker' ".
Always deeply and expressively, the lyrical Walker continues to write and sing on universal themes. In 'Black & Blue' he talks about a romance that is falling apart and trying to continue it. He says: "Let's find a quiet place. A place out of town ... We need to talk this. Be honest & True" talks about trying to save the relationship. " He quotes the title track as a composition that may not have a deep meaning, but by presenting the thought 'Everybody wants a piece of your love' leaves an ambiguity that speaks for itself. With a good history and backroom at the gospel, Walker looks towards 'Wade in the Water' as his favorite of all time.
As he reveals, "BUT NOT MY SOUL's inspiring words are expressing my belief that spirituality will bear you when physicality is no longer there.
This time Joe brought Paul Nelson to help create the album, which was recorded in the famous Chop Shop studios on the east coast. Nelson is a Grammy winner in the guitarist / producer category, he was also the guitarist of Johnny Winter - a blues-rock legend, and also performs as a guest guitarist on two tracks in 'Everybody Wants A Piece'
A true guitar virtuoso, a unique vocalist and prolific songwriter, in his career he has toured extensively at the most renowned music festivals around the world and has gathered a large crowd of devoted fans. Walker's debut album from 1986, Cold Is the Night, announced his appearance in a stunning way, and his subsequent productions established Walker's position as one of the leading bluesmen on the world stage.
He was born on December 25, 1949 in San Francisco. At the age of 14 he grabbed the guitar. Just two years later he became a well-known figure on the Bay Area music scene playing blues and occasionally turning into psychedelic music.
He lived for a while with Mike Bloomfield who introduced him to the music of Jimi Hendrix and Grateful Dead. Walker even made a short pilgrimage to Chicago to check out the blues scene there. In 1975, burned-out Walker turned to God singing for the next decade with a gospel group. When in 1985 the band played in New Orleans at the Jazz & Heritage Festival, Walker was inspired to rediscover their blues roots.
He composed The Boss Talkers and in the 1990s he combined gospel, soul, funk and rock influences with his corporate blues sensitivity on records released by Polydor / Polygram.
These albums are characterized by the cooperation of Walker with the group of the best artists, such as: Branford Marsalis, James Cotton, Tower of Power, Bonnie Raitt, Buddy Guy, Taj Mahal, Ike Turner and Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown. Walker has been continuously publishing albums since the turn of the millennium, and recently signed a contract with the Provogue / Mascot Label Group.
NPR Music called Walker "a legendary, moving boundary icon of modern blues" and in the world of blues it is already referred to as a living legend. However, at this stage in her life, Walker honestly says: "I would like to inspire younger musicians to practice blues but in their own way, do not be afraid to mix in. There is neither good nor bad way but how you want to express yourself. ".
