The monument was created in 1960 to commemorate the 1000th anniversary of Poland. It is made of artificial stone. It is about 4 meters high and weighs almost 15 tons. It was designed by Sławomir Lewiński upon the initiative of the Culture Department of the Provincial National Council. Previously, there had been a monument to Frederick William III, created by Ludwik Manzl (the creator of Sedina and Hercules fighting a centaur). The monument had been made of bronze and during the arming of Germany, it was melted down for the needs of the army.
