The ruins of the Augustinian monastery in Police-Jasienica is a monument that reminds us of the beautiful history of these areas. This building is one of the most beautiful monuments of medieval monastic architecture in Western Pomerania. Its creation is related to the presence of the Augustinians - monks brought to these lands in the mid-thirteenth century. Thanks to their activity, the wetland area by the river was developed and Gunica was regulated. The monks built a mill here, raised sheep and pigs, and also grew hops, and owned several inns. They also had at their disposal a wooden church built at the end of the 13th century, which was later rebuilt by them. The monastery itself was founded in the 14th century. The monastery buildings consisted of two two-story wings and a church, creating a courtyard open to the west. The original Gothic-style buildings with perimeter walls on the southern and eastern wings up to the first floor and basement rooms have been preserved to the present day. During the Reformation in the 16th century, the monastery in Jasienica ceased to fulfill its previous functions and assumed a secular character. At the end of the 17th century, it began to fall into ruin. In the mid-twentieth century, the upper floors were pulled down.
Today, the area around the church and monastery ruins is well-kept and tidy. Dangerous places are secured. The interior of the building is overgrown with shrubs and other wild vegetation, but the facility is open to visitors and it is possible to see the ruins carefully. The preserved decorative window arches and arcades perfectly illustrate the style in which the monastery was built. There is a church area around. The ruins of the monastery are open to all visitors. Part of the building is accessible from the outside, while the remaining elements can be accessed from the church yard. Very often this beautiful place is used as a background for various types of outdoor photo sessions. For several years, at the end of summer holidays, right next to the church, in the vicinity of the ruins, the Augustinian Fair has been held - a cyclical event aimed at cultivating ancient culture, especially the medieval period. Recently, the staging of the Mystery of the Passion is taking place in the ruins of the monastery on Holy Saturday. The adjacent temple is perfectly visible from the road, as it is built on an elevated area. The ruins of the monastery are hidden a bit deeper.
