The Sea Fishing Museum in Świnoujście is at Rybaka Square 1. The museum is near the city center. It is close to the quay and Świnoujście Ferry Terminal. The building is at the intersection of Armii Krajowej Street and Rybaka Square. The museum is in the former building of the historic town hall.
The Sea Fisheries Museum in Świnoujście was established in 1974. The museum is in the historic town hall building. It is the oldest building in the city. In front of the building, on the square, there is a stone with a plaque commemorating the sailors, with the inscription "to those who did not return from the sea".
The museum's exhibition consists of three departments. Each department is located on a different floor. The nature department is located on the ground floor. Before entering, we can see two huge shells of the largest contemporary clam - Tridacna. The nature exhibition is divided into three parts presenting the life of plants and animals from three climatic zones. And so, we can see the fauna and flora of the Baltic waters, cold arctic waters, and warm waters. We find here an impressive collection of shells, vegetation, and prepared animals. The exhibition is complemented by aquariums, where we can see, among others huge piranha, turtles, or catfish sharks. We can also see the "gold of the Baltic Sea" here, i.e., the amber exhibition.
On the first floor there is a marine department presenting fishing gear, fishing vessel models and navigational instruments. The exhibition shows the changes that have taken place in fisheries over the centuries. We can see the tools people used to catch fish. Noteworthy is the exhibition "Models of sailing ships", where you can see extremely precisely reproduced models of historic sailing ships.
The historical department is located on the second floor. Here we can learn about the history of the town of Świnoujście. At the exhibition we will see, among others, photos showing the former appearance of the city, the life, and habits of its inhabitants, as well as archival documents, coins, and everyday objects from various periods of the city's development.
