Golczewo, a guarded beach at Lake Szczucze.
A statue of a frog with a crown, carved in stone, sitting on a globe, considered a symbol of Golczewo, decorates an artesian well near Lake Szczuczeg. Local legends are associated with it. One says that the daughter of a local knight turned into a stone frog, and she had a passion for a baker's journeyman. The father of the maid, having caught them at a tryst by the lake, cursed the girl with the words “may she remain a frog forever!”. Then a storm broke out over the waters, and when it was over, on the shore, instead of the knight's daughter, there was a figurine of a frog.
The second legend says that during one of the great epidemics, the lives of the inhabitants of the then settlement were saved by a frog who showed them a source of safe, clean water to drink.
The monument was built in 1910, the author of the design is the architect Otto Walter - the son of a pastor from Golczewo. The figure of the frog was forged by a Berlin sculptor. Originally, it was situated near the former castle, at the crossroads, where a small spring was flowing. In 1974, during the road reconstruction, the well was demolished, and during the works, a document closed in a bottle was discovered, informing about the idea of building this monument. The figure was then moved to the place it currently occupies above the artesian well, where it is a frequently visited tourist curiosity and a characteristic point of the town of Golczewo.
