The ruins of the former synthetic gasoline factory - Hydrierwerke Pölitz occupy a vast area north of Tanowska Street, part of the provincial road No. 114, approx. 18 km north of the center of Szczecin. To get there, turn into Licealna Street, at Gumnazjum No. 1, and then continue to Spółdzielcza Street, next to which there are bunkers, which house the "Skarb" Historical Museum, supervised by the Police Land Association "Skarb".
The synthetic gasoline factory - Hydrierwerke Pölitz was established in 1938. Liquid fuel from coal (synthetic petrol) was produced here for the needs of the German army. In 1944, it occupied an area of 1,500 hectares, including 200 hectares of compact technical infrastructure, of which several characteristic buildings have survived to this day in various conditions. The most recognizable one is the coal elevator used for storing semi-finished products and for the production of gasoline. The skeletons of the production halls are also visible. The ground anti-aircraft bunkers and the egg-shaped Splitterschutzzelle bunkers, intended for one person, and the Westermann type bunkers in the shape of a cylinder with a pointed concrete cap, have survived. You can also encounter sets of silos or fuel tanks. All this is hidden in a thicket of trees and shrubs. Some places are very difficult to access and dangerous. There is a lot of rubble, stones and metal or cast-iron fragments protruding from the ground, so it is not advisable to visit the factory ruins on your own. Every Saturday at 1:00 p.m., a free guided tour is organized, during which you can visit the factory, go underground, and see the permanent exhibitions at the association's headquarters.
